Fashion Confession: Puttin’ On The Ritz

If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to
Why don’t you go where fashion sits?
Puttin’ on the ritz

How many times did you arrive at an event dressed fabulously only to see that other people didn’t perspicuously plan their sartorial choices? It happened to me on several occasions at openings, parties, and embassy receptions around the world.

When it happens, do not panic

It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

You do not need to always be the most glamorous Grace Kelly in your sartorial choices, but it is nice to show respect to the host by showing up in something fabulously chic.

If you ever find yourself out of your depth, a little black dress will always do the job. It is a timeless classic, and it is appropriate for almost every occasion. Accessorize it with a pearl necklace or Swarovski crystals and your look will be transformed in seconds into pure, timeless elegance.

Dress Code

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.

Recently, my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary at The Ritz and I quite enjoyed being surrounded by men in jackets and ties and highly fashionable women sipping champagne.

Now, some may say that they do not want to abide by the strict dress code imposed by the iconic London’s venue, and that’s a matter of a choice.

Perhaps, the best choice is to keep the form but to find your own expression within the dress code set for an event you’re attending. Even in a formal setting, to stand out in the crowd is always an available option.

I  am not a big fan of rules and strict protocols but I love old fashioned classic elegance on special occasions.

There’s something timeless about old-fashioned elegance that has the ability to transcend reality and evoke the epoch of Louis XVI.

London’s Ritz is what The Plaza is to New Yorkers. Scott Fitzgerald’s love letter to the allure of old traditions. A home-away-from-home. Mirage. Where a perfect frock rests on.
